Rostos do Rio / Faces of Rio

Rio is a city with many faces
Like any metropolis, it’s a melting pot that attracts the brave. Those who manage to survive and thrive in their little nest within the vastness of the urban jungle.
As a Londoner, I find myself drawn to the chaos and creativity of megacities; the endless lives one can lead in them; and the labyrinth of worlds that can be unlocked by chance encounters.
In these early stages of this ongoing photo project - Rostos do Rio (Faces of Rio) - I provide a little window onto the people living in Rio - both the Cariocas (those born there) and also those who have made it their home, for some period of time.
The portraits are taken inside or outside the places people live, or their places of work, as this provides an eye into their intimate, daily worlds.
I started this project in 2022, with most of the photos taken in 2024 (my 7th trip to this cidade maravilhosa), and I will continue to add faces to this project for many decades to come. Vamos lá!
